I've worked in nearly every aspect of book publishing in my 19 years in the industry.  I have served as a bookseller at Borders Books and Music, in publicity at Candlewick Press, in marketing at Abrams Books for Young Readers/Amulet Books, as an assistant at a leading boutique literary agency in New York City, and in the editorial department at Atheneum Books for Young Readers/Margaret K. McElderry Books in the Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing Division. I have also served as editor for Little Lamb Books and Good & True Media.

In the past, my freelance clients have included HarperCollins, Scepter, and an Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Semi-Finalist. I have been an active member of a committed writers group since 2012, both giving and receiving feedback on a variety of work. I believe we get stronger when we stretch all our muscles—the more perspectives we consider, the deeper the resonance and clarity of our work.

I am currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts with a concentration in fiction from the University of St. Thomas, Houston. I am privileged to study with and learn from incredible peers and faculty who are committed to good, true, and beautiful literature.

Pitch Perfect

You want to get into freelance writing. But is your pitch strong enough?
I’ve written over 400 articles for a dozen sites, and know how to craft a pitch that gets noticed.
This package includes a review of your draft and feedback via email. $25

Query Questions
The agents and/or publishing houses you’ve researched require a query letter. You want to be sure you’ve hit all the marks, without overdoing it.
I’ve been on both sides of the desk in this arena, and can help refine your query so that your project will be received as polished and professional.
This package includes a review of your draft and feedback via email. $25

Picture Book Edits
You've written a children's picture book, but something doesn't seem to be all the way there quite yet. I have been editing picture books for years and have recently written one as well. This package includes a marked-up manuscript and an editorial letter detailing my observations and suggestions. Rates are determined by manuscript word count: Up to 1000 words, $150; up to 1250 words, $175; up to 1500 words, $200. Phone calls to discuss notes can be included for an additional fee.

Proposal Review
You’ve completed your book proposal. You want to submit it to publishers or agents, but also want to be certain you’re putting your best foot forward.
In agency work and with publishing houses, I have been the person reading queries and proposals, determining whether or not to advance them to acquisitions. I will bring the same eye to your pages to point out strengths and weaknesses, make suggestions for improvement, and ask questions you might not have considered.
This package includes a review of your proposal (up to 5,000 words), feedback via email, and a thirty-minute phone call to discuss. $225

First Chapter Assessment
You have a draft of a bigger project, but don’t have the time or money to invest in an edit of the full manuscript.
As an editor and writer, I am constantly giving and receiving feedback. I offer comprehensive, constructive notes that can be applied to the whole, so that you can take your work to the next level.
This package includes a review of your first chapter (up to 2,500 words) and feedback via email. $125

Manuscript Edit
You’re getting ready to self-publish or the publisher to which you’re submitting requires a completed manuscript. You need a professional eye to cull the extraneous bits, identify the missing pieces, and suggest solutions.
My job as an editor is to ask the right questions, so that you, as the author, are inspired to continue strengthening your work and honing your craft. Investing in a full manuscript edit will improve your current project and set you up for success in the future.
This package includes a review of your full manuscript, feedback via email, and a one-hour phone conversation to discuss notes.
Rates are determined by manuscript word count: Up to 30,000 words, $1000; up to 40,000 words, $1500; up to 50,000 words, $2000. Contact me for further pricing.
