Substance abuse claims more than 175,000 lives every year in the United States, making it the third leading cause of death in this country. During the COVID-19 pandemic and since, the crisis has accelerated dramatically.
Addiction isn’t just a physical and psychological illness; it’s a spiritual disease that requires a spiritual remedy. The Road to Hope addresses the deep need in our Church to respond to the addiction crisis. Author Keaton Douglas draws on her years of ministry in this field to educate and equip the body of Christ — clergy and laity alike — to understand and minister to our suffering brothers and sisters.
Those struggling with addiction, or their loved ones, should be able to visit any Catholic parish and find someone to accompany them, through spiritual consolation and recovery resources. This book provides a comprehensive pastoral approach, demonstrating that we as a Church can’t ignore the crisis of addiction — in fact, we have a solution for it.
"An inspiration and a challenge to all of us. A gift."
--From the foreword by Danielle Bean, brand manager of CatholicMom.com
"Every mom needs the voice of reason and sanity, but we also need someone to point us to God and his generosity. Lindsay Schlegel beautifully combines a deep devotion and realistic humor in this book. You'll feel like she's sitting beside you with coffee (or maybe a beer) even as you want to take notes in the margin. Enjoy this book. And then share it with a friend or three."
--Sarah A. Reinhard, coeditor of The Catholic Mom's Prayer Companion and blogger at SnoringScholar.com
"Don't Forget to Say Thank You is a must-have for parents that beautifully and sometimes humorously reveals the many opportunities we have to grow in holiness in the parenting trenches. Schlegel's down-to-earth stories and wisdom reveal the valuable lessons our children impart upon us in between cups of reheated coffee and our constant reminders to our children to be nice, to please go to bed (now!), and to say you're sorry. Find encouragement, a new perspective, and renewed strength in your parenting life with this gem of a book."

Called by Name is a 365-day devotional designed to empower and equip you to draw near to Jesus and use your God-given gifts for the Church. With meditations on scripture and encouraging insights from popular Catholic authors and speakers in the WINE community, this is the perfect daily companion for women who want to connect with the heart of Jesus and live every day in the light of his truth and love.
This daily devotional follows the liturgical seasons and includes major holidays and some feast days. You can begin your reading journey at any point in the year. As with all WINE offerings, you are invited to read, reflect, and respond using lectio divina.
Each day includes
- a Bible verse or passage for meditation;
- daily reflections;
- a closing prayer to focus your heart on an important truth or goal; and
- a tangible action you can carry out each day, such as volunteering, going to Confession, or donating clothes to charity.
