Dear No. 2,

I’m writing this just after we found out you exist. Your daddy and I are so excited about you! Your big brother Jacob is, too, or at least we think so. He’s already said he’ll help take care of you and give you hugs and kisses, but he nods to just about everything these days, so sometimes it’s tough to take him seriously.

Now before we get too far, I want you to know that you are not, and never will be, just a number to me. But the fact is, you are the second baby in our family. Your dad is the same way in his, and I am the same in mine. Hopefully, you will wear that badge with pride.

We don’t know too much about you yet, but I can tell you that from almost the minute we knew you were there, your daddy and I started to tell you we love you. And we do. We always will. The last few months I’d been wondering when, and even if, we would be blessed with another child. Not because of any event or symptom or anything; just because I know that life is not something we should take for granted. Even already having one healthy child does not guarantee the blessing of another.

And yet, here you are, growing in my belly. We are going to take care of you the very best we can.  We pray for you every night, little one, and we can’t wait to meet you.

Oh, and if you want to come on the earlier side of things, that would be just fine with me.

Keep growing, No. 2. Let me know if you need anything, okay?

Love,
Mom
