And Then There Was Good News

At the beginning of the week, I was starting to feel like only bad news was coming our way. They say that bad news comes in threes, but it seemed more like multiples of three to me. At one point, I tried to include Whitney Houston’s passing in the count. Sure, I didn’t know her personally, but she’s from New Jersey. That’s enough, isn’t it?

I was constantly braced for whatever was going to come next. I’d get nervous when the phone rang; it must be bad news. I’d get nervous if the phone didn’t ring; that must mean bad news.

With the springlike weather, the tides are shifting, and this week ends with a slew of good news: more friends expecting babies, a friend who was recently laid off has four job offers, my sister-in-law started receiving her college acceptance letters (and I am sure there are more on the way). The really good news for me is that I’m not so anxious, not so nervous about what’s coming next. I am learning to hope again, to expect the good, while maintaining a faith that keeps me prepared for the bad.

And in the meantime, I get to celebrate this wonderful lady. Marrying John was great, because I got to, well, marry John. The bonus was I was able to call this girl (the college student!) and her sister my sisters:

Hurray for good news!!! And thanks for sharing… I needed a pick-me-up. It’s been a rough week, so it’s nice to end with some good news.
